A recent annoying trend is asking for phone numbers everywhere even if it is for having a tea. I was once refused a sale in one of the retail chains when I said I don’t have a phone number just to avoid sharing the number; but because of the commotion I was creating I was allowed to take the goods and pay for it without a phone number.

The moment you share the number there are so many spam calls and messages. It is of no use to complain and get it settled because the design is to make it…

I have tried learning through various online platforms, many of them say it is self paced learning or make it such a way that you attend courses live at specific time. I have never kept up with the learning schedule except for one tool, which is Duolingo.

Duolingo is pleasantly gamified. It encourages a systemic approach to learning making sure there is scope for spaced repetition, diffused learning mode and very importantly maintaining a streak of learning days. …

A lot has been discussed about QC and QA but the way I explain to people is to use a story I read in my school days. The story is

One of the big enterprises wanted to replace the bulbs in their factories with a more efficient one which will save them a lot of power. They hear about a new company which specialises in those type of bulbs. …

I recently went to a public sector bank for some account related work. I was stumped by how behind they were in operational stuff compared to the modern digitalised ones. I was thinking by the body language of the staff they might go to any length to keep the bureaucracy as it is, instead of removing friction in banking.

The number of rules and conditions they had come up for simple operations that too making a personal visit is not understandable. Many of these rules would have come in place when there was no PAN and KYC in the banking…

In some professional settings, when I had to meet new people; often during the greeting people say “Hi, I am ABC and I am the << insert fancy title>>” and look back at me, while my responsibilities were at similar level I did not have a fancy title. I have always been associated with companies which did not go for fancy titles and it has been a downhill when there needs to be a peer to peer conversation but it ends up in a hierarchical communication.

This has a big domino effect and people want bigger and fancier titles…

MS Dhoni recently retired from cricket. He was one of the few sportspersons who demonstrated that concentrating on the basics of all around aspects of the game like psychology, fitness, coaching etc made him accomplish so much as a captain. (ICC test no 1, champions trophy, t20 world cup, 50 overs world cup, IPL 20, CLT 20). Different teams, different styles of games, different locations and yet he scaled the peak in every format. There are several others who had accomplished in many other sports areas, Kobe Byrant is one of them. Sport is always an art field that rewards…

I have been taking conference calls using wifi when I had a subscription of a 256kbps connection. Before smart phones, I was the only one using wifi at home and most of the times my voice calls just went through. My latest speed test gave me 220Mbps and I faced more calls drops than I used to have in 1Mbps connections.

Not until covid situation pushed all of us at home to connect to calls at the same time I never analysed enough to fix my wifi problem.

First problem, Overcrowding of wifi signals. Every home in the apartment complex…

New technologies mostly aim at improving efficiency mostly by automation, in many cases of disruption they create jobs for people not even experienced in that line of business. I grew up in Coimbatore where there are a lot of entrepreneurs/self employed people around on multiple scales and domains. My observation in the family circle was that people who were diploma/degree holders were quick to change businesses at a short notice like repairing electronics, making UPS, real estate, advertising, billboards etc. People who were involved in labour and ever green low income businesses like groceries, chauffeuring continued to thrive. …

I recently got a chance to read this book You 3.0 by Anand Tamboli and Amit Dangle. The thing that stood out for me in this book was the nice mix of quotes, anecdotes, bullets and explanations followed with summary of actionable points at the end of each chapter. I like this style because the quotes anchor the core points, the anecdotes make the chapter relatable.

My favourite chapter is “Authenticity — A simplified personality”. Why is this my favourite? Because I like the way it anchored the thought in my mind on how I should focus on not having…

Would we still have aeroplanes if Wright brothers were not able to invent it? The answer is yes, someone else would have made the breakthrough may be months or a few years later. It is applicable for most of the inventions. The end result for the general public will more or less be the same; even if there was no Marconi, JL Baird we will still be having radio and TV. Things will happen and breakthroughs will be made, some winner may take it all, but inventions would keep happening irrespective of those individuals doing it or not.

Who creates…
