Nudges

Over the years I found that journeys are more interesting than the destination desired. This is not just in travel, but also the journey towards some milestones in our life and career.

Why I like journeys than being at a destination? Journey is infinite, it is a puzzle to be solved, it is ambiguous and forces me into adventures, the yearning to reach a destination alone is enough to nudge us into the next tough day.

There are some underrated things at work which help us to choose a tough to reach milestone and achieve it. The biggest one is discipline, choosing a path and sticking to it without fail. Jerry Seinfeld mentions this to be his greatest strength and his method is called the Seinfeld calendar. The calendar nudges you to maintain your promised rhythm.

The other one is mentorship, people often feel that they don’t need a mentor once we grow into certain roles, the truth is mentors help us to choose audacious targets and will nudge us back into our path. They will also be a sounding board when times are tough, even if they don’t offer solutions just having a chat with them makes us ready for the next level. Anyone can be a mentor and we can have multiple mentors, each helping with different goals at the same time.

Last one, it is necessary to remain happy and content which means sometimes we need to give way to breaks before we breakdown. A lazy evening is often followed by an energetic day. Don’t beat yourself with an hectic pace, listen to the body and mind if it is time to stop and enjoy the sunset before continuing with your journey. Design your nudges to keep you interested and on track.
