The S3 outage will do more good to the service provider

I was reading ‘Antifragile’ by Nassim Nicholas Taleb exactly on the same day the S3 service went down. He mentions a situation where people in earthquake prone areas don’t go for earthquake insurance unless there was a devastating earthquake.

The probability of another major earthquake occurring in the immediate future following a major earthquake is small, yet it has been observed that the insurance policy subscriptions sky rocket, increasing the demand and increasing the price.

Similar to this, people may now build more redundancies for their infra than necessary by reacting to this, which will result in better business to the service providers even though the outage caused disruption to many.
